PEORIA (25 News Now) - A suspect arrested after several shots were fired in a Peoria neighborhood early New Year’s morning has been indicted by a grand jury.
The panel decided prosecutors have enough evidence to try Carnell Williams, 42, for reckless discharge of a firearm.
Police responded about 3:30 a.m. Jan. 1 to three ShotSpotter alerts with 19 rounds fired in the 2500 block of West Seibold, near Griswold.
Officers reportedly found nothing during a search, but heard additional rounds fired.
During a search, police say they found Williams standing behind a home. He reportedly went inside and didn’t come out, but officers later went inside and took Williams into custody.
The indictment handed up by the grand jury on Tuesday accuses Williams of firing a weapon in a reckless manner that endangered the safety of a woman.
Williams, who is out on bond, also faces a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.
