2 arrested for possessing stolen vehicle early Wednesday morning

PEORIA (25 News Now) - 2 17-year-olds were arrested earlier Wednesday for numerous offenses including possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

Peoria Police say that at around 1:13 a.m., police observed a vehicle that was reported stolen from another jurisdiction.

When officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped away at a high rate of speed down Farmington Road towards Main Street.

Police say officers did not pursue the vehicle as it fled.

During the investigation, officers observed the vehicle drive down an alley in the 1500 block of Parkside when three occupants then fled.

The driver didn’t put the car in park which caused it to roll between 20-25 feet and strike a squad car causing minor damage.

The two 17-year-olds were apprehended and detained after a brief foot chase.

The driver was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, hit and run, criminal damage to state supported property and obstructing police.

The passenger was arrested for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, obstructing justice, obstructing police and was found to have an active warrant.

Both were transported to the juvenile detention center.
