CREVE COEUR (25 News Now) - The Creve Coeur Fire Department is calling this past weekend’s Narcan distribution event a success.
Assistant Fire Chief Roger Ristow says the department handed out more than 50 free Narcan kits to the community, with most handed out on Saturday.

Each kit contained two, 4 mg doses of Narcan, test strips and information on how to get help.
The giveaway was held after Creve Coeur fire crews were called to four overdoses in three days.
“Before that, we might get one or two calls for overdoses, not necessarily opioids, but one or two overdose calls a month, maybe,” said Ristow.
“The thing that drove it was the fact that it took so many doses of Narcan for them to regain consciousness again,”
Ristow said the remaining doses will stay with the fire and police departments to assist them in overdose calls.
