25 Sports High School Monday - January 16, 2023
CENTRAL ILLINOIS (25 News Now) - Monday brought many high school basketball games throughout Central Illinois. Monday was highlighted by the most anticipated game of the season, Metamora versus Sacred Heart-Griffin, a rematch of the 2022 Class 3A State Championship game. The Redbirds get their revenge, defeating SHG 60-50.
The 111th Annual McLean County Tournament rolled on Monday. In boys action, the top seed Lexington defeats LeRoy 47-35, and Fieldcrest defeated El Paso-Gridley 55-42 for the third time this season. Lexington and Fieldcrest will now meet in the semifinals.
Bloomington Central Catholic hosted its MLK Tournament Monday. The Saints defeat Champaign Central 72-48, while Farmington fell to Champaign Central 71-61.
Also Monday, Normal U-High edges Washington 54-48 in overtime.
In girls hoops action, Class 3A No. 3 Peoria Notre Dame topped Dunlap 52-51, and Class 4A No. 5 Normal Community cruised to a 68-27 win over East Moline.
In the McLean County Tournament, top seed Fieldcrest cruises past El Paso-Gridley 56-35, Dee-Mack defeats Heyworth 43-27, and Eureka defeats LeRoy 51-26. Fieldcrest will face Dee-Mack in the semifinals, while Eureka will take on Tremont.
Also in girls action, a special night a Bloomington Central Catholic. The Saints defeat Tolono Unity 64-47, giving head coach Debbie Coffman and assistant coach Mendy Thompson career-win number 561 breaking the school record of basketball coaching wins.
