2 juveniles arrested after report of strong-armed robbery in Peoria
PEORIA (25 News Now) - A 17-year-old and a 16-year-old are in custody, and another remains on the run, after allegedly being involved in a strong-armed robbery late Sunday night in Peoria.
Peoria Police say it happened around 9:30 PM in the 1700 block of Northeast Jefferson, which is between Cornhill Street and Hayward Street. The victim told Police he was approached by two males who attacked and robbed him of some personal property. The victim suffered minor injuries.
While investigating, officers saw three males in the area, who fled when officers approached. After a brief foot chase, Police say they apprehended and detained a 17-year-old. A .223 rifle, which police say was dropped by the juvenile during the food chase, was found and seized by police.
Police add during a search of the area, they found a loaded handgun with an extended magazine and an unloaded rifle magazine.
A second suspect was located a short time later hiding. That 16-year-old juvenile had a handgun, along with an extended magazine. That juvenile was placed into custody. A third suspect was not found.
The two juveniles were arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Resisting/Obstructing Police and Possession of a Handgun under 21-years old.
They were taken to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
The strong-armed robbery remains under investigation.
