Suspect arrested early Saturday after high-speed chase
PEORIA (25 News Now) - A man is in custody after leading Peoria Police on both car and foot chases early Saturday.
According to a release from the Peoria Police Department, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on North MacArthur around 1:20 a.m. During the stop, the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed, found by officers a short distance from where they initially attempted to stop it soon after.
The driver, identified as 21-year-old Jakari N. Robertson, exited the vehicle and ran away. Robertson was apprehended soon after a short chase. During a search, officers found illegal narcotics and a handgun found to be a “Ghost Gun” on Robertson’s person. He was subsequently arrested for Armed Violence, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Justice, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Firearm Without a Valid FOID Card, Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding, Expired Driver’s License, Expired Registration, Unlawful Possession of Cannabis, and an Illinois Department of Corrections Warrant. Robertson was transported to the Peoria County Jail, where he’s awaiting bond.
