Overdose deaths lead to Narcan giveaway
PEORIA (25 News Now) - Creve Coeur saw a 20% increase in overdose fatalities caused by fentanyl in 2022, and the village is taking action Saturday with a Narcan giveaway.
Several sources told us this public health crisis is the deadliest overdose chain they have ever seen. In fact, the strength of the recent drug batch in the village has doubled, per Tazewell County Coroner Charlie Hanley.
Assistant Chief Roger Ristow of Creve Coeur’s fire department said he responded to four overdoses last week. One patient required seven doses of Narcan to regain consciousness.
The village hopes to diminish the ongoing crisis by giving away Narcan donated by Unity Point Health. Those interested can visit the department’s Central House Saturday, January 13 from 9-11 a.m. and 5-7 p.m.
