(25 News Now) - Semifinal night at the State Farm Holiday Classic was mighty entertaining on Thursday. In the large schools girls bracket, Normal Community stunned top-seed Mundelein Carmel 36-34 thanks to a buzzer-beating layup from sophomore Reyna Powers. They advance to Friday’s championship game where they’ll meet Washington who rolled past Chicago Hyde Park 54-25. In the small schools girls bracket Brimfield fell to Camp Point Central/Augusta Southeastern 34-20. They will play Sherrard for third place on Friday.

At the Manual Holiday Tournament it will be an all-Peoria battle in Friday’s championship game. Peoria High and Peoria Notre Dame will square off for the second time in the title matchup. The Lions beat Dunlap 60-40 and the Irish beat Rock Island Alleman 52-39 in semifinal victories.

At the 91st Pontiac Holiday Tournament where the hosts played their first game in the winners bracket in 16 years. Unfortunately for Pontiac, they ran into top-seed Chicago Simeon and fell 86-41.

In the small schools boys bracket of the State Farm Holiday Classic, Normal U-High beat crosstown rival Bloomington Central Catholic 63-58 to advance to Friday’s championship game. They’ll play top-seed St. Joseph-Ogden and Illinois State recruit Ty Pence in the title game.

At the Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament, Mt. Carmel won their second straight Pekin Holiday Tourney with a 71-64 win over top-seed Moline. In the third place game, Morton fell to Hersey 51-40. In the fifth-place game, the host Dragons lost 68-51 to Springfield Lanphier. In the 7th place game, Washington beat Normal West 54-38. Richwoods won the consolation championship with a 74-41 win over Rockford Boylan

Down in Mississippi, Metamora improved to 2-0 in the Gulfport Classic with a 62-60 win over Pascagoula. They’ll play for the tournament championship on Friday.

At the Williamsville Holiday Tournament, it will be an all local matchup in the championship game. Top-seed Prairie Central used a huge second half to storm past Tolono Unity 58-42. No. 2 seed East Peoria won their second straight double overtime thriller to knock off host Williamsville and advance to the championship game.
