(25 News Now) - The busiest week of the high school basketball season kicked into high gear on Tuesday with tons of holiday tournament games around the area. At the Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament, the host Dragons defeat Gary Comer 64-50 while Peoria Richwoods was upset by Hersey 64-58, Morton beat Plainfield South 60-50 and Normal West edged Boylan Catholic 74-70 behind 29 points from Nate Moore. Top-seed Moline ran past Limestone 69-32.
In Bloomington-Normal, 64 teams tipped off the State Farm Holiday Classic. In the large schools boys bracket, defending champ Normal Community fell in the first round to Bradley-Bourbonnais 48-44. Elsewhere in the large schools bracket, Peoria High beat Joliet Central 76-48. In the small schools boys bracket, Bloomington Central Catholic topped Winnebago 58-40 while El Paso-Gridley got a win over East Dubuque 55-43.
At the Williamsville Tournament, top-seed Prairie Central raced past Dee-Mack 77-27 behind 21 points from Tyler Curl. Meanwhile, Peoria Christian beat Warrensburg-Latham 61-50, and East Peoria rolled past Roanoke-Benson 68-27.
Tuesday was semifinal night at the Princeville Holiday Tournament. Elmwood beat rival Brimfield 47-42 to advance to the title game. They’ll play Midland who beat Peoria Heights 58-41.
In the large schools bracket of the girls State Farm Holiday Classic, Normal Community beat Wheaton Warrenville South 42-34, Morton topped Springfield 72-44 and Washington stormed past Bloomington 63-47. In the small schools bracket, Bloomington Central Catholic fell 47-44 to Rock Falls while Brimfield beat El Paso-Gridley 36-19.
