UPDATE: In a statement to 25 News, The Illinois Department of Corrections confirms there was a staff assault on Thursday, December 8th.
“There was no weapons used, and the Officer was treated and released from the local hospital,” said the statement.
The statement went on to say, “The safety of all staff remains the Department’s top priority, and we will continue to take all steps possible to keep our staff safe.”
PONTIAC (25 News Now) - A day after a union picket over safety at the Pontiac Correctional Center, we’re told another Correctional Officer was injured at the facility.
The AFSCME Union President tells 25 News, again, it was an officer, and inmate incident just before 10 AM Thursday.
That officer was taken to the hospital, and is now at home recovering.
No one else was injured, and there are no other suspects.
The prison has not commented, and we are waiting to hear back from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
A Correctional Sergeant was stabbed, and another Correctional Officer was injured at that same facility, also by an inmate, just before Thanksgiving.
Again, the prison and the Department of Corrections have not mentioned on how that victim is doing.
