PEORIA (25 News Now) - A stash of weapons, including a pair of loaded assault rifles, are now in police hands after the arrest in Peoria of two fugitives.

Peoria Police sent out a news release Wednesday listing guns, ammunition and other items recovered from a vehicle after arresting Kenneth Hobbs, 38, and Nathan McKinney, who’s 31.

In the vehicle, police said they found a loaded AR-15 with a 30-round magazine, red dot sight and two additional 30 round magazines, a .22 cal. SCAR Style assault rifle, one loaded .45 cal. handgun, one loaded 9mm handgun, a pellet rifle with scope, several new unopened boxes containing household appliances, a snow blower and miscellaneous pieces of jewelry and watches.

Police said they’re trying to figure out who owned all the items, and they’re contacting other police agencies to determine if they were stolen in vehicle and home burglaries.

Police said they made the arrests at MacArthur and Jefferson, and the pair tried to escape when Hobbs crashed his vehicle into a squad car. There was significant damage to both vehicles, according to police.

Hobbs was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine and McKinney is suspected of having cocaine at the time of their arrests.

Nearby police agencies had been looking for Hobbs on warrants for a variety of charges including fleeing and eluding, vehicle burglary, and retail theft.

McKinney was wanted on a federal warrant for possession of a firearm, police said.
