UPDATE: Elderly woman dies after SUV-pedestrian crash outside Peoria Civic Center

UPDATE (9:45 p.m.) - A Peoria Police news release says the elderly woman who died was struck by a sport utility vehicle that was traveling southbound on Jefferson, near Liberty.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. The SUV’s driver stayed on the scene, according to police.
The department’s traffic unit is investigating.

UPDATE (9:15 p.m.) - All lanes of the Jefferson Avenue, between Fulton and Liberty, have been reopened following Wednesday evening’s fatal car-pedestrian crash outside the Peoria Civic Center.
PEORIA (25 News Now) - An elderly woman was killed early Wednesday evening after she was hit by a car outside the Peoria Civic Center on Jefferson Avenue.
Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria confirmed the fatality, and he warned pedestrians and motorists to be aware of their surroundings.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the woman was crossing the street going into the Peoria Civic Center when she was hit.
Bradley University’s men’s basketball team is playing Northern Iowa at Peoria Civic Center Wednesday night.
Just after 6:20 p.m., the city’s Emergency Communications Center sent an email saying that authorities had closed down Jefferson, between Fulton and Liberty.
