NORMAL (25 News Now) - A new student group is hosting a drag show to raise money to benefit victims and their families impacted by the Club Q mass shooting in Colorado Springs.
A large part of the proceeds from the Holiday Drag Show will go to Colorado Gives, which is helping with costs following the Nov. 19 shooting at the gay nightclub that killed five people and injured 17 others.
Drag Royalty, a registered student organization (RSO) on campus, is organizing the event, scheduled for Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Brown Ballroom of ISU’s Bone Student Center.
Drag Royalty’s faculty advisor Byron Craig, an assistant professor in the School of Communication at ISU. Craig sees a link between the nightclub and the local organization’s goal.
“Club Q spends time with young people who are interested in learning the performance art of drag and this is exactly the purpose of the new Drag Royalty RSO,” Craig said in a university news release.
Drag Royalty members Rebellion, Lincoln Logge, Niki, Jakai, and Portia Lynn Snaps will perform at the Holiday Drag Show.
Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased online.
