(25 News Now) - Despite a valiant back-and-forth effort, Peoria High’s quest for a Class 5A state title came to an end on Saturday afternoon in Champaign. The Lions fell 45-44 to Nazareth Academy in an ultra-competitive matchup that saw numerous lead changes. In the end, a failed two-point conversion that would have given Peoria High the lead was the undoing for the Lions who finish the season as state runners-up. All-state senior running back Malachi Washington turned in another brilliant performance, rushing 47 times for 273 yards and a whopping six touchdowns.
