PEORIA (25 News Now) - Runners gathered at the starting line this Thanksgiving morning, all running toward the same goal. The River City held its annual Chocolate Turkey 5K run.

This year’s run collected funds that are all going to The Hellen Center for Kids with Cancer at OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois.

Co-director of the run Adam White says events like this are a great way to come together, before everyone is too stuffed at the dinner table. “Everyone’s enjoying being together with family, with friends, with loved ones. Kicking this day off with a health and wellness initiative is a great way to celebrate whatever else it is they have in store for this wonderful day. It’s just a great way to start it off.”

Although health and wellness is important, participants got to enjoy a small Thanksgiving dessert. After crossing the finish line, participants each got their own two-ounce solid chocolate turkeys.

The runners, some of which dressed up for the holiday, ran three miles and walked one.
