PEORIA (25 News Now) - Downtown Peoria is likely to be a busy place Thanksgiving morning as runners race for chocolate goodies and to raise funds for children with cancer.

Peoria Police said it’s likely to take longer for people traveling downtown to reach their destinations, and they should watch out for increased pedestrian traffic during the Chocolate Turkey 3 Mile Run and 1 Mile Walk.

The race starts at 8 a.m. on Water Street, between Liberty and Main.

Police say there will be barricades blocking traffic north and south on Washington Street.

Traffic will be affected from about 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. for the following intersections:

• Macarthur / Washington

• Persimmon / Washington

• State / Washington

• Liberty / Washington

• Main / Washington

• Hamilton / Washington

• I/74 off ramp/ Washington

• Adams/Eaton

The Chocolate Turkey Run and Walk is a fundraiser for The Heller Center for Kids with Cancer at OSF HealhCare’s Children’s Hospital of Illinois.

Participants will get a chocolate turkey, other chocolate treats, and a race shirt.
