PEORIA (25 News Now) - As they gear up for the next game against Thorton High School’s Wildcats, Manual High School’s Ram will have new shoes and funds to back them up.

The school received a $3,250 donation from Hibbett Sports, located on War Memorial Drive, in addition to new shoes and gear with the store’s branding on them.

Hibbett representatives said they want to make an investment in the community and chose Manual specifically for the donation.

“Mainly to make to where, ‘hey we’re staying here’ let them know we are something that’s going to continue to be here and just to show that ‘hey, we want the best for our communities.” Hibbett Sports District Manager Ashton Rose said.

The store did not sponsor the women’s basketball team, drawing ire from female students and team members. Hibbett Sports said it’s something they might consider for next year. Rose said the store didn’t want to split their donations between teams and rather fund the men’s basketball team fully.

Students celebrated the event with a half-court shot competition and a game of knockout. Manual faces off at the Decatur Thanksgiving Tournament against Thorton High School located in Harvey, Illinois Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
