PEORIA (25 News Now) - A portion of Downtown Peoria is under a boil order after Illinois American Water repaired a water main break that began sometime Saturday night.

Impacted customers were contacted by phone about the order, which affects about 65 customers in the immediate area.

The Peoria Public Library says their downtown location is closed. All four other library locations remain open.

Any tap water usage for drinking or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for five minutes.

Water is OK for bathing, washing and other common uses.

The break occurred at the intersection of Northeast Jefferson Avenue and Hamilton Boulevard.

Crews started the repairs Saturday night and continued into Sunday. A broken valve necessitated repair Monday morning.

The cause of the break has yet been determined. Cause analysis will be conducted after the repair is completed.

A map of the affected area can be found on Illinois American Water’s website.
