PEORIA (25 News Now) - From Michael Kors to Kate Spade to Vera Bradley, there were plenty of name brand purses up for auction in Elmwood in an effort to support scholarships for the high schoolers in the area.

The Elmwood Business Women’s Association held it’s 7th Annual Purse Auction and Luncheon this afternoon.

Elmwood Business Women sponsors the event to help local children in the area through academic outlets and social events.

“We give money to our high school and elementary students who need some holiday time during the holidays. We also give out scholarships, we’ve given out over $20,000 in college scholarships for our students in the last few years,” explains Mary Ann Hanlin, one of the chairs for this purse auction.

She says they continue to work to increase the amount of money raised every year to continue support for kids across the region.
