(25 News Now) - For many in Central Illinois, today, Thursday, is like Christmas Eve - because the first day of firearm deer hunting season opens tomorrow.

It’s also a great day for local butcher shops like Raber Packing Company which processes harvested deer.

Raber president Henry Courdt says they’ve been busy processing deer taken during archery season and expect to see more now that firearm season is here.

“More than what we would expect during bow season, so far it seems like it’s been a good year for most guys,” he said. “It’s hard to say, with the weather this week its gonna get a little funky it’s gonna get a little cold as far as guys going out and hunting i don’t know what that’s gonna look like.”

Firearm deer season ends at sundown on Sunday.

A second firearm deer season runs from December 1-4.
