25 Sports High School Saturday: Football Quarterfinal Saturday, IVC Volleyball finishes 3rd at state
(25 News Now) - Quarterfinal Saturday in high school football saw six local teams competing for spots in the state final four. In Class 7A, Pekin fell just short in a thriller against Lake Zurich in a 29-27 loss. The Dragons end the season 11-1.
In Class 5A, Peoria High is moving onto the state semifinals. The Lions went on the road and beat Mascoutah 36-21 to advance to the final four. They’ll host Morris next week.
In Class 3A, Prairie Central’s undefeated season came to an end with a 14-0 loss to Tolono Unity. Elsewhere, Olympia’s Cinderella run wrapped up in a 41-21 loss against Williamsville.
In Class 2A, Tri-Valley is headed back to the state semifinals. The Vikings walloped Knoxville 46-22 behind Blake Regenold’s 2A playoff record 417 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns. Tri-Valley will visit Maroa-Forsyth in the final four next week.
In Class 1A, Ridgeview-Lexington rolled to a 41-6 victory over Tuscola to advance to their second straight state semifinal game. The Mustangs will host Camp Point Central for a chance to go to state.
In volleyball, IVC finished the best season in program history with a third-place finish at state. The Grey Ghosts beat Freeburg in two sets to win the 3rd place game.
