CENTRAL ILLINOIS (25 News Now) - The college basketball season got underway Monday. Illinois State head coach Ryan Pedon made his debut on the sidelines for the Redbirds in their season opener against Western Illinois.

Despite the excitement in Normal, the night was a big let down. Illinois State loses to Western Illinois 71-68.

In Peoria, Bradley got an opening night 93-59 win over Wisconsin-Parkside. In Champaign, No. 23 Illinois defeat Eastern Illinois 87-57.

Monday was also the first day of high schoolboys basketball practice. After falling short in the state title game last season, Metamora begins this season on a mission to become state champs.

In volleyball, IVC is the only remaining Central Illinois team still playing. The Grey Ghosts preparing for the 2A State Finals this weekend.
