CENTRAL ILLINOIS (25 News Now) - Saturday was State Championship day is cross country at Peoria’s Detweiller Park. It was a historic day for the Washington girls at State in Class 2A.

The Panthers with a great team race led by freshman Sophie Ramirez’s 11th place finish. Washington finishes third as a team, winning a trophy at State for the first time in school history.

In the 2A boys race, the Morton Potters finished fifth as a team, led by senior Josh Weeks’ 10th place finish. In the 1A boys race, Normal U-High takes home fourth place.

Also in 2A girls, Normal West freshman Julie Bach takes sixth.

The second round of high school football playoffs wrapped up Saturday. In Class 6A, East St. Louis ends Normal Wests’ season defeating the Wildcats 40-0. In Class 5A, Mahomet-Seymour defeats Metamora 44-28. In Class 3A, Olympia runs past St. Joseph-Ogden 60-28. Also in Class 3A, Eureka falls to Williamsville 18-16, and Prairie Central defeats Roxana 41-20.

In Class 2A, Bloomington Central Catholic falls to Rockridge 27-18, Tri-Valley defeats Wilmington 28-21, and Farmington falls to Maroa-Forsyth 42-12.

In Class 1A, Ridgeview-Lexington defeats Salt Fork 58-20.

Saturday was also Sectional Title day in swimming. Normal Community wins the team title at the Normal West Sectional, and Dunlap wins the team title at the Pekin Sectional.
