BLOOMINGTON (25 News Now) - Bloomington Police are investigating a reported carjacking on the city’s east side, not far from where shots were fired during an attempted carjacking less than two weeks earlier in a grocery store parking lot.

Police don’t believe the two crimes are related.

Just before 8 p.m. Thursday, two women and a man said they were forced out of a sport utility vehicle by a masked man displaying a handgun near an apartment building in the 1100 block of Gettysburg Drive, east of Veterans Parkway.

Police said the suspect abandoned the SUV in an East Empire Street parking lot and took off before officers arrived.

Police said no shots were fired and no one was hurt during the carjacking.

Investigators do not think there’s a connection to an attempted carjacking in which shots were fired in the parking lot of Hy-Vee on Veterans Parkway on the morning of Sunday, October 23. No one was seriously hurt, and police said they’re looking for multiple suspects in that case.

Anyone with information about these crimes is encouraged to call Bloomington Police at 309-434-2700 or 309-820-8888.
