Tazewell County Clerk expects to see more poll watchers on Election Day

TAZEWELL COUNTY (25 News Now) - Expect to see more people watching the polls on Tuesday.

Tazewell County Clerk John Ackerman says he’s expecting poll watchers at every polling site on Tuesday.

Normally, there are only one or two.

Poll watchers can be assigned by candidates, political parties or non-profit groups to be their eyes and ears at the polls.

If they see a problem, they can bring it to the attention of election judges.

“I think it’s just a result of the national dialogue that’s increased on elections, people paying attention to the processes and procedures, paying attention to how they’re conducted, wanting to be involved, making sure this important keystone of democracy is still solid and safe,” he said.
