(25 News Now) - Saturday brought us a pair of afternoon football games for Big 12 schools. In Peoria, Peoria Notre Dame took a 20-7 lead into halftime, but couldn’t quite pull off the upset against undefeated Champaign Centennial as the Irish fell 28-20. Normal Community, meanwhile, picked up a win over Dohn (OH) in a 47-26 victory.

Saturday also wrapped up the IHSA State Golf Finals. Pekin’s Carter Stevenson finished his outstanding career with a 3rd place finish in Class 3A. Roanoke-Benson’s DJ Norman finished 13th in Class 1A. In girls golf, Peoria Notre Dame finished just one stroke short of taking home a state trophy as the Irish still came up with a terrific 4th place finish in Class 1A. Morton finished 7th. In Class 2A, Normal U-High’s Reagan Kennedy finished 11th as an individual and the Pioneers were 5th as a team.

In volleyball, Metamora beat Normal U-High in two sets on their way to the winning the BCC Saints Fall Classic championship. IVC also had a nice day and won their bracket.

In soccer, Peoria Notre Dame used a first-half goal from sophomore Maximillian Matarelli to beat Normal U-High 1-0.

It was a special day of cross country in Metamora as the Redbirds renamed their annual invitational the Gene Jones Runnin’ Red Invite after 52-year head coach Gene Jones.

Also on Saturday, Dunlap won the Mid-Illini Girls Tennis championship
