PEORIA (25 News Now) - Illinois’ transportation secretary says he knows Glen Avenue needs a lot of work.

Omer Osman is a long-time Peoria resident who earned a master’s degree at Bradley University.

Thursday, Osman announced the Greater Peoria Region is getting several million dollars for road improvements through the Rebuild Illinois plan

Paid for through an increase in the gas tax passed in 2019, the state program just paid out the final $250 million block for use by local towns, cities and counties.

Peoria, for example, will get $1.2 million.

“I’m proud to say that we have kept our commitment to get these funds to you within three years,” said Osman.

“And anyone who lives here knows how much we need improvement in Glen Ave and some other roads in the Peoria area,” he added.

McLean County is receiving just over $1 million, while Fulton County will get just under $220,000.

The state noted that previous $250 million installments have aided nearly 3,800 projects statewide, including $4.5 million to improve Springfield Road, between Townline and Toboggan Avenues in Tazewell County.
