Mild today, significantly cooler this weekend
PEORIA (25 News Now) - Early morning showers will end before daybreak Thursday. Skies will become mostly sunny for a period through the morning hours. Temperatures will climb into the mid 70s once again this afternoon, however changes will arrive this evening. A cold front will slide in from the northwest, which will bring the chance for isolated showers from the late afternoon into the evening. Winds will shift behind the front and much cooler air will arrive for the end of the week.
A partly cloudy Friday is on tap, with below average highs that are forecast to top out in the mid 50s. Most areas will stay dry Friday, though it is possible that lake effect rain showers from the southwest side of Lake Michigan may drift over communities along and east of I-55. These showers would likely be very hit or miss and light in nature.
Temperatures will fall to their coldest levels of the Fall season early Saturday morning. Widespread lows in the low to mid 30s are likely and we are continuing to monitor the potential for the first freeze of the Fall. Lingering clouds over central Illinois may provide enough of a blanket to keep temperatures above 32°, however there is a high enough probability of freezing temperatures in outlying areas to bring attention to this potential occurrence.
