PEORIA (25 News Now) - It was another quiet and mild day today, but big changes are coming to our weather for the second half of this week. We’ll see a few showers over the next 24 hours, and then some of the coldest air so far this season will move into Central Illinois. This will lead to the potential for our first fall freeze for parts of the area Saturday morning.

Tonight and Tomorrow:

Two cold fronts will move through Central Illinois over the next 24 hours. The first will be tonight and the second will be tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Tonight’s cold front will bring the chance for scattered showers, especially before 2 AM. Otherwise expect cloudy skies with lows near 50.

We may see some breaks of sunshine tomorrow morning, but expect more clouds during the afternoon as our second cold front approaches. A few isolated showers may be possible around or just before dinnertime, but chances are only 20% so not everyone will see rain.

Winds will also increase behind the front Thursday afternoon and evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Friday and This Weekend

Friday will be much colder with highs only in the mid 50s. We’ll see mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies for most of the day. However, it’s not impossible for us to see more clouds and maybe even an isolated lake effect shower near and east of I-55 Friday afternoon.

Saturday morning still looks like it will be the coldest morning so far this season. We’re calling for a low of 34 for Peoria and Bloomington-Normal, but rural and outlying areas will have the potential to drop as low as the upper 20s and low 30s. This will likely be our first freeze for many of us this fall.

Saturday afternoon will be seasonal cold with highs in the upper 50s. We’ll rebound into the 60s on Sunday.
