(25 News Now) - We got a special treat to kick off week 6 of the high school football season on Thursday. We got a Thursday night Peoria city rivalry matchup as Peoria High hosted Peoria Richwoods. The Lions emerged victorious with a 66-12 win to move to 6-0 on the season.

On the links, area girls golfers had successful outings at regionals. At the Class 1A, Metamora regional, Peoria Notre Dame was the team champ behind a 3rd place finish from Addie Jennetton. Morton finished 2nd as a unit and had the top two scores of the day. Senior Reagan Braker fired a 74 while Abby Nieukirk was the medalist with a 72. Bloomington Central Catholic also advanced as a team. At the Class 2A Champaign Central regional, Normal U-High was the team champ behind a medalist performance from Reagan Kennedy. At the Class 2A Richwoods regional, Pekin finished second as a team behind a nice day from Sydney Huber while the host Knights had Maggie Urich advance as an individual.

In soccer, Peoria Christian topped Pekin 3-1.

In volleyball, Metamora kept on rolling through the Mid-Illini as they beat rival Washington in two sets. Elsewhere, Limestone topped East Peoria in two while Morton did the same against Canton.

The Potters girls basketball team was also honored today. Morton and head coach Bob Becker were honored by congressional proclamation from U.S. Reps. Darin LaHood (R-Peoria) and Ed Perlmutter (D-Denver) last week for the program’s success from 2015-2022, an eight-year stretch in which they won four state championships. The Potters celebrated with a ceremony in The Potterdome today.
