PEORIA (25 News Now) - A Peoria woman has been sentenced to spend the next 25 years of her life in prison after a 2021 hit-and-run that left a 10-year-old dead.

Karrie Brunswig was sentenced for leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated DUI, possession of methamphetamine and possession of a controlled substance in the November 2021 incident that killed Troy Erving.

The prosecution asked for 30 years - the maximum allowed under the plea deal. The defense asked for 12 years.

She was also sentenced to three years of mandatory supervised release.

Brunswig said she was sorry in a statement of allocution, wishing she could trade places with Troy Erving.
