PEORIA (25 News Now) - A suspect in a September 20 homicide at Taft Homes has been arrested.

Peoria Police spokesperson Semone Roth says a 16-year-old male was identified as the suspect in the shooting death of a Georgia man who was from Peoria.

He was located in the 1000 block of Main Street and fled on foot when law enforcement attempted to arrest him.

During the pursuit, police say the suspect discarded a loaded firearm.

He was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered.

The juvenile was arrested for first-degree murder, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a handgun under 21, resisting arrest, no FOID and an active Peoria County warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm.
