NORMAL (25 News Now) - A local holiday was dedicated to getting children outside to have fun in a bigger playground.

The ‘Day Of Play’ is hosted by the Children’s Discovery Museum. It brings all things creative, different, and fun outside for others to enjoy. Many educational resources for parents were provided, who also got time to be interactive with teaching their child to ride a bike or even play a musical instrument.

Organizer Sammi Kern explained what it means to put on such a huge event for the children of Bloomington-Normal.

“All of Uptown (turned) into a giant playground. Essentially it’s our mission in action, and our mission is to inspire the love of learning through the power of play, so we just bring that outside of our museum and let the community experience it for free,” she says.

The Day Of Play launched back in 2004, looking to encourage kids to turn off their screens and get outside to enjoy the outdoors with other children. The event offered over 60 activities and vendors to keep families moving.

The Children’s Discovery Museum plans to starting promoting more upcoming events for the holidays. You can find more information on their website at
