(25 News Now) - We had a jam-packed day of high school sports action on Thursday including conference championship day in Mid-Illini golf. At Lick Creek, the Pekin boys pulled off a four-peat on their way to a conference title behind a medalist day from senior standout Carter Stevenson. At Metamora Fields, it was the Morton Potters who took home the Mid-Illini crown behind a sizzling round from Abby Nieukirk who fired a 70 for medalist honors.
Maxwell Park hosted the Intercity Cross Country Meets on Thursday. In the girls race, the freshman dominated with Normal U-High’s Natalie Bierbaum taking home the individual win by more than 30 seconds. Normal West freshman Julie Bach finished 2nd and led the Wildcats to their first Intercity Title since 2006. In the boys race, the Wildcats’ Sky Riddle made a last-mile push to win the individual crown. He was followed by three U-High Pioneers in Mitchell Hayes, Landen Alcorn and Mason Hart as the Pioneers won their second straight team title.
Just down the street at Normal West, the Wildcats’ soccer team battled Urbana to a hard-fought 1-1 draw. That was also the score at Dunlap as the Eagles and Normal U-high played to a 1-1 tie.
In volleyball, Metamora kept on rolling with a two-set win over East Peoria while Tri-Valley stayed undefeated in Heart of Illinois Conference play with a two-set victory over Fieldcrest.
