PEORIA COUNTY (25 News Now) - The community is deciding what Peoria County’s new flag will look like.

Voting is underway online, at libraries and at he Peoria County Courthouse to choose among three finalists.

A local group selected the three finalists from 41 submitted designs, while members of a national association of people who study flags provided input. That group is called the North American Vexillogical Association.

Wednesday, county leaders unveiled the three finalists. All prominently feature the Illinois River, and symbols for local industries and innovation. One of the flag designs features the letter “P” for Peoria.

Voting runs until October 2. Ballots can be found online. In person voting is being held at the Peoria Public Libraries, Lillie M. Evans Library in Princeville, Chillicothe Public Library, Alpha Park Public Library in Bartonville, Dunlap Public Library, Peoria Heights Public Library, Brimfield Public Library, or the Peoria County Courthouse.

The winning flag design will be announced Saturday, October 22 at the Peoria Riverfront Museum as part of the museum’s 10-year anniversary celebration.
