UPDATE: Peoria Police confirm man critically wounded in shooting at Taft Homes

UPDATE (10:25 p.m.) - The man shot Tuesday night at Taft Homes public housing in Peoria suffered life threatening injuries.

In a news release, Peoria Police said officers immediately started performing life-saving measures on the victim until medical personnel arrived and took him to a local hospital.

Police said in the news release that they have no suspect information.

The department said its Special Investigations Division (SID), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Neighborhood Services Unit (NSU) and Crime Scene Unit (CSU) all responded to the scene.

Police in their news release requested the public’s help to solve the case.

UPDATE (9:30 p.m.) - 25 News Now reporter India Afriyie has been told a man was shot Tuesday night at Taft Homes in the 600 block of NE Adams Street.

Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria said an adult male is the victim and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

The chief said police were called after a ShotSpotter alert indicated five rounds were fired.

Police said they don’t know whether there are other victims, and investigators have to find witnesses who may have seen the shooting.

PEORIA (25 News Now) - The City of Peoria’s Emergency Communications Center says the 600 block of NE Adams Street is closed due to a “police matter.”

There’s was no immediate word from Peoria Police about what was happening there. The center sent out an email announcing the street closure just after 9 p.m.
