FEMA grant awarded to Peoria Fire Department
Grant will be used to hire new firefighters
PEORIA (25 News Now) - The Peoria Fire Department is receiving a FEMA grant to hire new personnel.
Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger says the FEMA SAFER grant will be used in the hiring of 11 new firefighters.
The total grant award is in excess of $4 million.
FEMA says the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grants was created to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations to help them increase or maintain the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities.
