PEORIA (25 News Now) - The Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum is getting funding for a new exhibit space.

$300,000, the bulk of the funding, is coming from a donation from The Gilmore Foundation.

There is an additional $100,000 promised in 2023 as a match for the additional $200,000 in funds to be raised by the Peoria Park District.

Expected to be built in 2023-24 new additions to the Museum will include an expansion to the Playhouse porch and an interactive trades exhibit.

This project will also create a new classroom space to be used primarily by partner organizations that offer therapeutic and health-related services for children – a growing need over the past few years according to a release.

“The PlayHouse was originally built on the collaborative commitment of local organizations and to see it expand with the generosity of our community and with a match challenge seems like it’s meant for success. We appreciate the belief in our work that the Gilmore Foundation has exhibited with this gift and we look forward to meeting their expectations,” said Emily Cahill, Executive Director of the Peoria Park District.
