NWS confirms tornado near Le Roy early Monday morning

PEORIA (25 News Now) - An EF-0 tornado has been confirmed by the National Weather Service near Le Roy as severe storms moved through Central Illinois Sunday night into early Monday morning.

This tornado touched down at 12:28 AM 0.5 miles southwest of Le Roy and was on the ground for 6 minutes before lifting 3.25 miles southeast of Le Roy.

Its highest winds were 85 mph. This tornado’s path was 3.4 long and 30 yard wide.

This tornado knocked down a power pole into a mobile home and a tree into another mobile home when it first touched down. It then did minor tree damage in the southern part of Le Roy before moving southeast and causing roof damage to two duplexes and tipping over two semi on I-74. While just southeast of Le Roy, this tornado caused additional roof damage before lifting in a field.

The 85 mph wind speed is the top end of an EF-0 rated tornado.
