Family of 8-year-old crash victim asks for help bringing her body home

FLINTSTONE, MD (25 News Now) - An 8-year-old from Bloomington is dead after a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred the morning of September 16 in Allegany County, Maryland.

Maryland State Police identified the child as Angelin Reyes Sanchez. She died at the scene after being ejected from the vehicle.

Sanchez and a 37-year-old woman were ejected from the vehicle they were riding in, according to a release.

Police also say the woman, a 37-year-old male driver and four other passengers, were transported to UPMC Western Maryland for treatment of their injuries.

All of the occupants are from Bloomington.

State troopers responded at about 5:50 a.m. Friday responded to a report of a crash at eastbound I-68 east of MV Smith Road in Flintstone.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound I-68 when the driver failed to negotiate a right turn. The vehicle struck a metal guardrail on the left side and began to skid. The vehicle traveled across the road to the right and also struck the metal guardrail on the right side of the road. That strike on the right side of the road caused the vehicle to spin into the path of and be struck by a tractor-trailer.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Her family is asking for help bringing Angelin Sanchez’s body back to Bloomington.

“She was like the little princess; she was the only girl and now she’s gone. If they can help us get her over here and give her the goodbye, she deserves,” Angelin Sanchez’s aunt Maria Sanchez said.
