PEORIA (25 News Now) - Amateur radio enthusiasts united under one roof this weekend for an annual tradition.

‘Superfest’ is held every year at the Peoria Expo Gardens. Hosted by the Peoria Amateur Radio Club, it brings together operators to share their excitement for the hobby. Visitors could trade parts and exchange equipment, plus check out the latest and greatest technology in the field. New enthusiasts could even get certified by taking a license test, required by the FCC.

No matter what happens, the club says radio is still a guaranteed - and secure - way to communicate.

“It’s a fun, fulfilling hobby, and it’s very important because it serves an important public safety function,” says Tom Hunt, the ticket chairman for Superfast.

There are about 700,000 licensed amateur radio operators across the U.S. If you want to get involved, you can visit the official Peoria Amateur Radio Club website here for more information.
