Families and furry friends get ‘dog-gone’ good time at ‘Woofstock’
PEORIA (25 News Now) - We’re in the dog days of summer, which means lots of opportunities for dogs and their families to come out and play.
“Dog days of summer,” isn’t a literal term, but Stray Animal Midway Shelter hosted their annual Woofstock Sunday.
Dogs and their people could get treats and connections to local groomers, vets, shelters, and other resources. Dogs got to meet and play with other local canines in the area, while also sizing each other up in friendly competition. Woofstock staff awarded the biggest, smallest, and best dressed dog at the event.
They also brought back their yearly pie-eating contest tradition. A dog and a person team up to see who can eat a “pie” of whipped cream the fastest.
Misty is a 7-year-old deaf dog, and defending champion of pie-eating. She partnered with Cameron Varney. 14-year-old Varney and Misty have practically grown up together, Misty has been in the Varney family since she was a puppy.
They ultimately defended their title yesterday in the casual competition. Misty earned a sticky face and a bandana for her victory.
“She’s really fast,” Varney said of the dog. She said they’re close, even sleeping together at nighttime.
