EAST PEORIA (25 News Now) - East Peoria Mayor John Kahl is asking voters to elect him to a second, four-year term.

Kahl formally announced his re-election plans Friday at RiverFront Park.

Kahl was elected mayor in 2019 and serves as “full-time” mayor because he also performs duties as East Peoria’s city administrator.

The mayor said his current salary is $74,811.

“There’s a lot of things ongoing in East Peoria that are going to take time to complete, and I’m wired to be one that if I start something I like to finish it,” the mayor said.

Before he became mayor, Kahl served four years as an East Peoria City Council member in which he was Commissioner of Public Health and Safety.

Kahl also served in the Marines for six years, and fought in the Persian Gulf War.

It’s not known whether Kahl will have an opponent. Candidates can file nominating petitions between December 12-19.
