PEORIA (25NEWSNOW) - CWO4 John W. Frederick Jr fought in World War II, the Korean war and the Vietnam war before losing his life as a prison of war in 1972. His family came together with the help of Rep. Tim Butler and Sen. Sally Turner to name a part of Interstate 155 from I-74 down to Illinois Route 1 after the late hero.

On Saturday, at the Tremont Community Center dozens came to see the unveiling of the CWO4 John W. Frederick Jr Memorial Highway sign. John’s grandson said it was an honor to memorialize the man he was named after.

“He passed away 50 years ago, so it’s been a long time and just for us to see him remembered in this way it’s a pretty special event for all of us,” John Frederick Wertz said.

The Tremont Museum and Historical society will have an exhibit dedicated to Frederick available on September 25th.
