In rural Peoria County, wings aren’t easy to come by, so brothers Kelly and Kyle Petersen opened KP’s with their dad back in July.

“That’s our favorite thing to eat - wings! 15 miles - either direction - it’s hard to find anything like this,” Kelly said.

We got a peek at the process - once the wings are out of the fryer, Kyle does what he calls, the “Sauce N’ Toss”.

“We pull everything fresh out the grease here ... A little drizzle, and everything’s tossed ... A little circular motion - get everything covered in there,” Kyle said.

Once we’re past the prep, it’s a taste test of KP’s most popular - some gorgeous, golden, garlic-parmesan wings.

And that’s just the warmup! Next, something sinister is brought to our table: KP’s infamous Reaper Wings. What’s on these little devils?

“The hottest pepper in the world. And a 6 million Scoville unit extract,” Kyle said.

Only a handful of guests have been able to handle it, and they got a shirt for their efforts.

“You get 10 wings in 10 minutes. You’ve got to finish them all, and then you get a five-minute afterburn,” Kelly said.

KP’s isn’t just about the wings, though. Fresh, crinkle-cut fries with a secret homemade seasoning, burgers, tenderloin, and soon - ice cream.

And all of those options are available to-go through the restaurant’s drive-in. All of this makes hearty meals with a family feel.

“Sticking your family together and the importance of family - that’s what we want people to get out of it,” Kyle said.

So if you’re looking to get your wing on in Hanna City, stop by KP’s Wings & Fries - because You Gotta Eat!
