PEORIA (25 News Now) - Police say a stolen vehicle led to the arrests two male juveniles who were allegedly in possession of a handgun Friday morning.
Just before 5:00 a.m. police located a reported stolen vehicle in the area of Griswold and Lincoln Streets.
Officers followed and attempted to stop the vehicle, but it failed to stop, so officers laid down stop sticks that struck the vehicle’s rear driver’s side tire.
The vehicle eventually stopped, and the two male juveniles exited and ran from the scene.
Police located both juveniles and they were taken into custody without incident, and during a search of the path they ran, officers found a discarded handgun.
The juveniles were arrested for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, and Possession of a Handgun Under 21.
Both were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.
