BLOOMINGTON (25 News Now) - One person is said to be in critical condition after being shot just blocks from Bloomington High School’s Fred Carlton Field where BHS and Normal West High School were playing a varsity football game.

Bloomington Police said they heard gunfire about 7:30 p.m. and found a young adult male had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital.

The victim was found in the area of Kenyon Court. Video from the scene showed police tape and at least 10 evidence markers, and a heavy police presence.

The shooting happened during the first quarter of the game between BHS and visiting Normal West. The shooting did not interrupt the game.

Police said in a statement on its Facebook page that there have been no arrests, and it’s believed there’s no danger to the public.

Police said they closed Woodruff Drive and Kenyon Court to conduct the investigation, and asked the public to avoid the area.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Bloomington Police at 309-820-8888.
