Normal Councilwoman to run for third term
NORMAL (25 News Now) - A Normal Councilwoman says she is running for a third term.
Normal Town Councilwoman Kathleen Lorenz announced her candidacy Thursday afternoon during a Facebook Live event.
“This will be for a third term for me, and I am enough of a sports fan to know that it’s not easy to 3-peat,” Lorenz said in a statement. “I will take nothing for granted in seeking this next term, and if anything, will be motivated to work even harder to earn your vote. I have thought long and hard about this decision, and it boils down to three reasons: My heart is still in it; I have the time; and I have the support of family and friends.”
Lorenz says her experience as an employee of the United Way of McLean County helps her bring valuable information and insight to council discussions, since they are part of community issues, like homelessness, the need for affordable housing, and food access issues.
“I gained valuable perspective through those lean years of 2016/17, and in more recent years, an understanding of the role that local government can and cannot play in economic development,” Lorenz added. “These experiences are worth taking into a third term –both for keeping any eye on spending, and leading our community during an economic growth phase… plus all the things that municipalities are called upon to do in those times, like land use issues, development, and infrastructure.”
