Alleged serial rapist indicted on multiple sex assault charges
PEORIA (25 News Now) - A Peoria County Grand Jury has indicted a man they say preyed upon women in the Peoria area for the last two decades.
According to State’s Attorney Jodi Hoos office, 39-year-old Demarquis Turner was indicted Tuesday in three separate cases for Criminal Sexual Assault, which is a class 1 felony. He is currently being held on a $1.25 million bond.
In a statement, Hoos’ office says these cases all involve different women, some complete strangers to the defendant. The dates of the cases range from 2004-2016.
Hoos’ office says they were solved through DNA, and a collaboration between the Peoria Police State’s Attorney office.
“I am pleased to take this first step towards justice on behalf of the victims of these heinous assaults,” Hoos said in a prepared statement. “Demarquis Turner may have evaded justice for most of his life, but my office will do everything to ensure the rest of it is spent behind bars,” Hoos added.
Hoos’ office says it is believed there may be other victims, and encourage anyone who has been a victim of an assault to report it to police.
