PEORIA (25 News Now) - It was a full-on cookout outside the Grand Prairie Hy-Vee in Peoria Sunday afternoon.

The 14th annual St. Jude Shrimp and Corn Boil brought plenty of customers. All the money raised goes back to fund the efforts of the children’s hospital, covering every aspect from the research, to the doctors, to the patients. It kicks off a new round of fundraising after the St. Jude Telethon last weekend.

Plenty of hungry customers came out, with some showing up before the event even officially started.

“People always show up early. So we had people here working early, start the cooking early,” says organizer Mike Joseph. “Some people come after church, got their grocery shopping done, and just want to pick it up on the way home.”

Last year, the event raised close to $10,000, with 1,500 dinners served. Joseph says they aim to surpass that goal with this year’s event, with plenty to enjoy about it.

“Shrimp, corn, sausage, potatoes, smothered in butter? It doesn’t get any better than that.”
